William C. Mahlan, Jr.
Offices: Oceanside, NY
In his 30 years of practice, Bill has represented a diverse assortment of clients. A substantial portion of his practice is now focused on litigating construction accident cases in which he represents building owners, general contractors, construction managers, managing agents and subcontractors. He has a particular focus on risk transfer for his clients. His experience also includes having handled insurance coverage disputes and declaratory judgment actions on behalf of carriers.
Working for a major insurance carrier, Bill had been involved with environmental tort matters throughout the country. He has also handled subrogation actions involving property damage matters, particularly arising out of steam electric station operations and mining equipment. In addition, he has represented architects and engineers regarding alleged liability in complex property damage cases. Other areas of his practice include general liability and products liability.
In his earlier carrier, he was an assistant district attorney in Nassau County where he tried cases and prosecuted forfeiture actions to recover proceeds and instrumentalities of crime.
Bill is constantly working with his clients’ best interest being paramount. He believes being ready for trial is the best way to achieve a favorable settlement. Accordingly, he treats each case as if trial is inevitable, but realizes that sometimes that means settling a case, rather than undergoing protracted litigation. He has had successful results in resolving cases through both mediation and trial and has taken several verdicts.
After graduating from Georgetown University, he received his law degree from St. John’s University School of Law. He has been an avid runner for years and has completed nine marathons throughout the United States. He is a commissioner on the Human Rights Commission of the County of Nassau.
