Stephen A. Hoffman is a partner at Pillinger Miller Tarallo LLP with more than 25 years of experience defending complex civil litigation matters on behalf of insurers, businesses, and professionals. His practice spans a wide range of high-exposure claims, including professional liability, construction defect, fire loss, product liability, transportation litigation, and commercial disputes.
Mr. Hoffman has extensive experience representing vehicle owners, commercial carriers, and transportation companies, including bus operators and emergency and non-emergency transport services, in matters arising from motor vehicle accidents. He utilizes advanced forensic tools, including Electronic Data Recorder analysis and video enhancement, in the early stages of litigation, and works closely with accident reconstruction experts and other specialists to develop efficient, cost-conscious defense strategies. Where appropriate, he pursues early resolution through strategic motion practice, including pre-discovery dismissals and summary judgment based on New York’s Serious Injury Threshold.
A significant portion of Mr. Hoffman’s practice is devoted to representing contractors, architects, and engineers in construction defect litigation involving structural failures, excavation and underpinning claims, and property damage arising from fire, water, and other losses. He has substantial experience analyzing and litigating risk transfer issues, including indemnification and insurance provisions under AIA and other commercial agreements.
In addition, Mr. Hoffman regularly represents excess and umbrella carriers in high-exposure matters, monitoring underlying litigation and collaborating with defense counsel in cases involving catastrophic product liability, fire loss, and other significant claims. He also maintains an active commercial litigation practice, representing clients in complex contractual disputes.
Mr. Hoffman has authored multiple publications addressing developments in construction and product liability law.
