Laura M. Schaefer is a partner in the Garden City, NY office of Pillinger Miller Tarallo LLP. Her practice focuses on municipal defense, general liability litigation, land use matters, and environmental issues. Drawing upon both public-sector and private-practice experience, she represents governmental entities, businesses, and property owners in complex litigation and regulatory matters throughout New York.
Prior to joining PMT, Ms. Schaefer served as Deputy County Attorney for Nassau County, where she defended the County and its agencies in matters involving negligence claims, premises liability, motor vehicle accidents, and Article 78 proceedings. She managed all phases of litigation, including investigations, depositions, discovery, motion practice, and settlement negotiations. She also advised county departments on contracts, insurance matters, land use issues, and municipal transactions, including development projects and environmental matters.
Ms. Schaefer also brings significant experience in private practice representing clients in real estate, land use, zoning, business, and personal injury matters. In addition, she served for nearly a decade as a Nassau County Legislator, including as Chair of the Planning, Development, and Environment Committee, where she played an active role in legislation involving environmental protection, public infrastructure, and community development. This combination of legal, governmental, and legislative experience provides her with a unique perspective when advising clients on complex legal and regulatory issues.
Ms. Schaefer earned her Juris Doctor from Hofstra University School of Law and her Bachelor of Arts in Communications from Adelphi University. She is admitted to practice in New York and before the United States District Courts for the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York.
