Under the New York Adult Survivors Act, New York now permits lawsuits to be filed against alleged sexual abusers or their estates, businesses, and institutions that contributed to the conduct by ignoring or encouraging an environment conducive to the assaults. The new one-year window became effective November 24, 2022.
There was a previous window allowing survivors who were minors at the time of the alleged incident to bring claims beyond the Statute of Limitations. As many as 11,000 claims were filed over the course of two years. This window will likely result in a similar number of claims being filed. Please feel free to contact us if you wish to discuss this.
